Matthias Düwel

Matthias Düwel has had numerous solo, two-person and group exhibitions. His most recent solo show “Eden” was with Martha Otero Gallery, Los Angeles and “Consumer/Consumption” at the University of Arizona’s Museum of Art. Previously he has shown at William Havu Gallery in Denver, Moeller Fine Art in NYC, Galerie Bellier in Paris and Galerie Brusberg in Berlin, among others. 



His work has been exhibited at Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Cologne, Chicago Art Fair, the New York Armory and other international art fairs. Reviews have appeared in the LA Times, the Huffington Post, Beautiful Decay, Hi-Fructose Magazine, Glasstire, Art & Auction, Le Monde, Libération, Beaux Arts, Frankfurter Allgemeine, Der Tagesspiegel and Vogue. Düwel received his Meisterschüler (Master of Fine Arts) from the Universität der Künste, Berlin in 1983. The following year he was awarded a fellowship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) to live and work in NYC.



That same year, he was made artist-in-residence at New York University Deutsches Haus and given an additional two-year studio fellowship to the New York Studio School. 



In 1986 Düwel received a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation.



After 20 years of working, painting and teaching at Parsons the New School for Design in NYC, Düwel moved to Oracle, Arizona in 2004. He now lives and works on an historic ranch, as well as serves as the lead art faculty for the Pima Community College Northwest Campus, in Tucson.
